Singles, Doubles, and Trebles

The most straightforward bet types. A Single is a bet on one selection, a Double combines two selections (both must win), and a Treble combines three selections (all must win).

Accumulator Bets

An Accumulator (or Acca) combines four or more selections into one bet. All selections must win for the bet to be successful, but the potential returns are significantly higher as the odds multiply together.

Lucky 15, Lucky 31, and Lucky 63

These popular bets include singles and cover all possible multiples. A Lucky 15 consists of 4 selections creating 15 bets, a Lucky 31 has 5 selections creating 31 bets, and a Lucky 63 has 6 selections creating 63 bets.

Trixie and Patent

A Trixie combines 3 selections into 4 bets (3 doubles and 1 treble). A Patent is similar but includes 3 singles as well, making 7 bets total.

Yankee and Canadian

A Yankee combines 4 selections into 11 bets (6 doubles, 4 trebles, and 1 four-fold). A Canadian (also known as a Super Yankee) combines 5 selections into 26 bets.

Heinz, Super Heinz, and Goliath

These are full cover bets for 6, 7, and 8 selections respectively. A Heinz consists of 57 bets, a Super Heinz consists of 120 bets, and a Goliath consists of 247 bets.

Understanding Each Way Betting

An each way bet is two separate bets: one for your selection to win and one for it to place. The place portion pays a fraction of the win odds (typically 1/4 or 1/5).

What is Rule 4?

Rule 4 is a deduction applied to winning bets when a horse is withdrawn from a race after you have placed your bet. The deduction amount depends on the odds of the withdrawn horse and compensates for reduced competition.

Dead Heat Rules

A dead heat occurs when two or more selections finish in the same position. Your stake is divided by the number of participants in the dead heat, and you are paid at full odds on that reduced stake.

Tips for Using the Calculator

  • Double-check your odds before calculating.
  • Use each way bets in competitive races with good place terms.

  • Note that larger multiples have higher returns but lower chances.
  • Use the calculator to understand the minimum winners needed for profit.
